Farewell and Hello

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Stew and I spent the weekend in Prescott. I'll go over the whole trip in more detail later along with a whole bunch of pics, but for now I'm just going to talk about the main reason we were up there- our friend Michael's going away party.

Stewie spent pretty much the whole day over there but I decided to hang out and have dinner with my parents first and then go over there around 8 o clock. There were so many people there, both friends and family, and new people kept coming and going. I really had so, so much fun because I got to catch up with SO many people that I usually don't have time to see while I'm in Prescott. It was such a blast- at least up until the very end when Stewie and I had to leave (at 5:30 am mind you) and a wave of sadness and emotion just swept right over me.

I've known Mikey since the first day of 6th grade (almost a decade ago!) and we've been friends since. We haven't always been super close and in recent years he's been more stewie's friend than mine, but he's still a wonderful person and an important figure in my life. He's probably one of the last people I ever would have considered would join the military, but a few months ago he signed up. I know he's really excited about it and I'm happy for him, but realizing that this person I've known for so long is leaving and will probably never be the same again was overwhelming. Not to be melodramatic or anything- I mean it's only bootcamp for now- but I honestly believe the military changes people in a way that is difficult to avoid or reverse.

So, anyways, I got all teary when I was hugging Michael goodbye and looked like a total fool... and then by the time stew and I got home at 6:30 I was so sleep-deprived and emotional that I just burst into tears when my mom opened the door and spent the next hour sitting on my bed talking to my parents about everything. I'm so happy I have such wonderful, supportive parents who are there for me when I'm such a mess :)

Today I feel kind of crappy and worn out... which is why I want to take the time to just say goodbye to all the exhausting, annoying, sad, difficult things of the past and say hello to the hope of a beautiful summer, a great next school year, and future days filled with love and happiness. Farewell complicated yesterday, hello beautiful today (and tomorrow!) Life is hard, and sucky, and people change and leave and make us sad and upset... but after all that is through all the wonderfulness of life is left. So here is to appreciating life and not getting bogged down in the stupid crap. I'm moving forward and keeping my head held high. Thanks to my friends, my family, my boyfriend, and everyone else who keeps me going.

top ten posts thus far

Hello lovelies! Happy thursday! In high school, thursdays were my least favorite day of the week... but these days I usually have no class/only one class on friday, so thursdays are my day to let out the stress I've been working up all through the work week and relax. This weekend Stewart and I are driving up to Phoenix to visit his brother, and then up to Prescott to see our parents and attend our dear friend Mikey's going away party. I've known Michael since the first day of 6th grade (almost a decade ago!), and now he is joining the army. It's very sad, but I'm also proud of him for getting out of our hometown! More on the party and the rest of our trip to prescott later.

There are 2 days of the Ultimate Blog Party left- and I'm having so much fun so far! I've already found like 10 new blogs to follow (with some pretty super cool ladies behind them!), and I've gained quite a few followers myself. It's been so fun to virtually mingle with everyone. So, since there are some new people checking out this blog and there are bound to be a couple more who stop by, I thought it would be fun to post my top ten most viewed posts. I'm not sure if I would consider them all to be my best/most interesting posts, but numbers don't lie so I guess people are checking them out for a reason! There is a nice variety... a handful of recipes, a couple posts from various countdowns, a book review, some basic life stuff, and my workout regimen that I still follow. Enjoy!

10. No Booze November- last november I went without a drop of alcohol to see how it made my body feel. the answer was- great! I'm back to drinking occasionally now, but I definitely think the hiatus did me good.
9. Last Week/New Book- a general life update post with lots of pics of what I had been up to.
8. My Workout Routine- combination of cardio, weights, and biking myself to school. It's been working great for me!
7. St Paddy's Day Countdown Day 3- Irish Colcannon Recipe- This was one of my very first posts on this blog, and the first countdown I ever did. Colcannon (mashed potatoes whipped with cabbage or kale) is soo, sooo delicious for any day of the year.
6. Looking For Alaska- My review of the book. A little below my reading level, but still good :)
5. 7 Layer Burritos- If you've ever eaten a 7 layer burrito from taco bell (one of the only good already-vegetarian things on the menu), you've probably had the thought "this could be a whole lot better". Well, I had that thought, and tacked "if I made it myself" onto the end of it. Homemade 7 layers= most delicious thing ever.
4. Foodie Fight #2: Honey Mustard and Lemon Greek Skewers with Hummus Dipping Sauce- Foodie Fights is something that sadly no longer exists, but it used to be an online battle between food bloggers. 2 obscure ingredients are chosen (in this case it was a 'special' battle, where the only requirement was skewers) and 5 bloggers create a dish that features them. 2 judges evaluate each dish/post and decide on a winner based on yumminess and creativity. I came in 2nd with this one :)
3. Halloween Countdown Day 4- Creepy Cocktails- Another countdown post! Halloween is my favorite holiday (with st paddy's close behind) and on this day of my countdown I made up a fun candy corn layered drink.
2. Movie Mondays: Wristcutters: A Love Story- Only one of my many movie mondays, and the only one that makes the top ten list (at number 2, no less!) I'm glad this is so popular, because this is my favorite movie! It's so interesting that it ended up being so popular with viewers as well :)
1. Sesame Seared Tuna and Papaya Tempura Sushi with Spicy Sesame Sauce and Papaya Chutney- whew, how's that for a title of a dish? This was my first crack at foodie fights, and I came in first! The two ingredients chosen were sesame seeds and papaya. My winning dish was a really fun and creative sushi. Takes a little work but the results are delicious :)

There ya go! My 10 most viewed pages. Check them out, and if you decide to do a post like this be sure to leave a link in the comments so I can check out your most popular posts!

Gypsy (and photo!) Love

I have a minor obsession with gypsies and traveling circuses. Not the creepy, dingy, animal-cruelty advocating circuses you mostly see these days; the magical, bohemian, fabric-caravan-that-transforms-into-a-stage traveling circus. Dr. Parnassus circuses. And I love the idea of living like a gypsy- nothing but the stuff I can cart around in a caravan, selling odds and ends or making music to earn money... sure, it would be difficult, but it sounds like such a wonderful way of living.

So, whenever I find photos like these, I just fall in love. I mean, who wouldn't want to sleep in this tent?
And I know this isn't really gypsy or traveling circus style, but i still love love love this setup... it's so bohemian and comfortable looking. I would love to have a theater like this in my backyard :)
wouldn't it be awesome to live in this?
Little glowing circus hidden in the forest... I'd work there.
love it!

Party it Up!

A blog party? What could possibly be better! I'm a bit late getting started on this, since there are only 3 more days left of the partAy, but I wanted to be sure and get my blog out there! For more information on exactly what the blog party is and how it started, click the image above :)

From what I can gather, the blog party is basically just a way for everyone to get out in the blog world and let each other know "hey! I'm here! and this is what my blog is about!" I think it's so great that this kind of thing exists... especially since I was just talking about how the bloggerverse is a family last week!

This is also an astronomically better way to find blogs than clicking the next blog button on the blogger navbar, at least for the blogs in my niche. There are literally hundreds of bloggers who have put their links up, and then all these blogs are divided by the content of the blog- we've got a whole bunch of mommy blogs (no surprise there!), a handful of daddy blogs, some religious blogs, business blogs, and the categories I fit into- specialty blogs and daily life and opinion blogs. I can't wait to get started and find tons of new blogger friends!

So, without further adieu, here is my party post :)
This is me. My name is Emily, but there's a whole slew of names that I go by. For instance, my boyfriend Stewart calls me Emilem.
The two of us were born and grew up in Prescott, Arizona and we went to the same high school, but we didn't start hanging out until senior year. Now we both live down in Tucson, Arizona where I'm going to U of A with a Media Arts major and Classics minor, and he's going to Pima Community College with an emphasis in history. We go on hikes, invent themed drinks, play boardgames, read Harry Potter, and spend far too much time watching things on Netflix Instant.

My blog is about us and our lives sometimes, but it's about a whole lot of other stuff too! It's about all the bits and pieces that make me what I am- all my interests, my hobbies, my favorite things, my friends and family... basically it's me in website form.

So who am I? I'm an (almost) 20 year old small-town girl living in the city where my parents met. I love movies and media of any kind really, which is why I started my Movie Mondays feature. I'm an avid cook and I want to know how to cook EVERYTHING, although I myself am a vegan (with good cheese and sushi being my only exceptions). I've got a lot of recipes up on this site, some of them vegan, lots of them vegetarian, and even one or two with meat. I really love music, my favorite genres being indie rock or folk like First Aid Kit, Horse Feathers, and Modest Mouse. I love lots of stuff though, and I'm always looking for new suggestions!

I'm always in the middle of some book. Right now I'm reading both Sylvia Plath's The Bell Jar as well as Eat, Pray, Love. I've got a long list of books to read after that, too :) I ride my bike to school (which I hate... it's kind of like reading for class, you know? When it's something you have to do it's not as enjoyable) and drive my white subaru outback everywhere else. I love thrifting, crafting, and I'm hoping to improve my meager sewing skills very soon so that I can make a ton of cool stuff for our new apartment this fall.

One of my favorite things to do is work out, because the feeling after you've run 3 miles and get to stop and cool down is one of the best highs in the world. I'm awesome at procrastinating (I should be getting ready for my 2 pm class!), and would like to spend more time doing all the things I come up with in my whirlwind of a mind. I love gray skies and rain, but living in portland made me also love sunshine. I love arizona, although I'd like to leave it again for a little while. I collect business cards unintentionally... I just take them from everywhere I go and don't want to throw them away. They're an amazing way to document the things you've done and the places you've gone.

I try to live my life with joy and appreciation, and always look for the little things to find pleasure in because it makes every day fun and special. I love to sing, and spent many years throughout middle school, high school, and college in choirs. I also love to dance, but I'm not terribly good at it. I drink pots and pots of tea and love going out to coffee with friends. Blogging is one of my favorite things to do- I just love taking photos, thinking up fun posts, and documenting my life.

What else is there to say? probably a zillion things, but I'll leave it at that for now! That's me, my blog, my boyrfriend, and my life. Now it's your turn to tell me about yours :)

Movie Mondays: Julie and Julia

I wasn't planning on posting about Julie and Julia because, well, it's so mainstream! You've probably already seen it! But I love this movie... I really, really love it... and so I decided it deserves a spot on my blog along with all my other favorites :)

I saw this movie the summer it came out, sandwiched between Moon and The Time Traveler's Wife (yes, I sat in a movie theater for six hours straight, besides a small break for dinner at a restaurant next door- the summer stewie worked at the movie theater was awesome^^) I had no idea what it was about going in, all I knew was that supposedly the old people who frequented stew's theater enjoyed it.

Oh boy, was I in for a treat.

I hadn't started blogging way back then, but I did already love to cook. I love cooking so much that in high school I would have rather watched the food network for hours on end than MTV, VH1, or pretty much any other channel. To my delight, Julie and Julia was full of fantastic, beautiful cuisine that got me so inspired to go out and cook my way through a cookbook :)

I'm sure many of you have seen this movie, and those who haven't are probably still fairly familiar with it... but just in case, here's a brief plot synopsis:

Julia and Julia follows two stories; the life of Julia Child as she learns to cook in France and begins to write her first cookbook, and the life of Julie Powell, a new yorker with a passion for cooking and a desire to do something brilliant with her life. Her answer to her dull-life woes? Cook through Julia Child's "Mastering the Art of French Cooking" in one year, and blog about it. Oh food blogs... how I love you so.

Julia Child is played by Meryl Streep, who is marvelous. I never actually watched the real Julia Child's show, so I'm sure if I had I would have one or two things to say about Meryl's performance...but as far as I can tell she gave a pretty accurate depiction. Julie Powell is played by Amy Adams, and I love her in this role. She's usually cast in such wimpy, girly-girl, look-at-me-i'm-so-quaint-and-pretty-and-small-and-i-speak-in-a-high-voice roles, so it was soo nice to see her perform this more hard-edged character. She portrays Julie Powell as tough and determined while also sweet and likable. I love it!

I could watch this movie over and over again because I'm obsessed with food and blogging, but even if you aren't, I still think it's worth at least one watch. There's some wonderful humor and the story-line is really quite appealing. Plus, it's a true story and based around a woman sooo many people have watched and come to love... so what's not to like? I think this is the perfect movie for a family or girls night, or maybe a casual night with you sig. other. enjoy it!

here's a trailer:

We Are Family!

yay for corny titles! Yesterday, while I was spending the greater part of my afternoon wading through a sea of blogs, looking for ones to give the Versatile Blogger Award to, I had a small revelation. That revelation is that we- the bloggers of this world- are like a family! A community, at least. This seems really obvious but for some reason I had never really thought about it before.

Here's how I see it: I'm a blogger, and most of the people who follow me are bloggers. I follow a whole slew of other bloggers. So yeah, there are readers who don't have blogs, but for the most part, readers are bloggers. We all have become immersed in this culture, one way or another, and fallen in love with it. We document our lives, our families, our crafts, our recipes, and we search for like-minded people and take a peek into their lives. We're like a big network, each of us with our own little corner of the universe that stretches out in a whole bunch of other directions through the blogs we follow. We sustain each other! and we should continue to do so.

While picking blogs to give the award to, I wanted to make sure I chose mostly bloggers who have less than 100 followers, like me, because they're the ones who will really appreciate and benefit from the award. And then I got to thinking, why don't I search for new blogs more regularly? There are SO MANY blogs out there about so many different topics, that unless you've got thousands of followers you're pretty much lost in the abyss. We should be helping each other out, actively searching for blogs that interest us and following them if we like what we see! I know blogging is an exceptionally vain activity, but I also think it can be very altruistic if we decide to make it so. I'm sure everyone knows the joy that comes with getting a comment (especially from someone you don't know!) or receiving a new follower. We should give the same joy back. We are a community, we support each other, we should help each other grow.

That's how I see it, at least. It's kind of a comforting image, really, imagining all of us bloggers as one big family :) I encourage you all to go out and find one new blog to follow today! I know I'm going to.

Happy blogging!
Love,
Em

Versatile Blogger Award!

My fellow blogger Aki gave me this super awesome Versatile Blogger Award!
I think these awards are such a great idea, because not only do they make you feel super duper special when you get one, they require you to pay the special-ness forward and give the award out to fifteen other recently discovered bloggers.

This was actually an extremely hard thing to do, because I wanted to find brand new blogs, not just give the awards out to people I already follow who have like 2000 followers and such. Also, I wanted to make sure the people I give this award to actually have versatile blogs! So I used the little "next blog" button on the blogger navbar, repeatedly, and found that hot damn there are a lot of blogs out there that I have no interest in. There are blogs about dentistry. About textiles. About christianity. And of course there are about 4732984732 million family/baby blogs, which are essentially families that created a blog to let the rest of the family see what they're up to. Finding my market of blogs- young, college-age girls interested in a variety of things with a few hobbies that show up on their blogs- was incredibly difficult! I ended up not being able to fill all 15 spots with time constraints... but i did find a few gems. I definitely think everyone I gave the award to is worthy :)

anyways, here are the official rules for accepting this award:
1. Thank the person who gave you the award and link back to them in your post.
2. Tell us 7 things about yourself.
3. Award 15 recently discovered new bloggers.
4. Contact these bloggers and let them know they've received their award.

7 things you don't already know about me? I'll give it a shot :)

1. I haven't washed my hair in oh, about 3 months. More on that in a later post!
2. Sometimes I get a craving for kraft boxed mac n cheese- even though it's not very good and definitely not good for me!
3. On career day in Kindergarten (you had to dress up like what you wanted to be when you grew up) I wanted to be a Mom.
4. I own all 10 seasons of Friends and have watched them all many times
5. I am catering a 5 day youth retreat this summer... the day after I fly home from greece.
6. I wear three rings on my fingers- one from my grandma on my mom's side, one from my grandma on my dad's side, and one that is one of 3 that my mom, sister, and I all wear.
7. I think american cheese is an abomination. and so, SO disgusting. pretty sure it's just soft yellow plastic.

and here are the ten bloggers I chose for this award!

10 Things I've Learned in My Teens P.1

Before we get started, here are a bunch of pics of me as a wee teenager:
In Venice, during a month long vacation that started immediately after my last day of middle school. Age: 14
About to leave for the winter dance in freshman year- my friend nicole and I didn't know that all dances besides homecoming and prom weren't cool yet. If I remember right, we arrived, danced to one song, and then went to starbucks and hung out with some random boys that were there. Age: 14
Going to Bull Pen for Easter is a tradition in my family. I think we are going again this year! Age: 14
My first (of three) proms- I went with what I'd consider to be my high school sweetheart, even though I dated 4 other boys in high school (one of them stewie!). I dated this guy for the longest time while actually in high school though, so he wins the title. he was a junior and I was a sophomore, which was how I got to go to prom. Age: 15
At the river in the Mendo Woodlands during the youth retreat, summer after sophomore year. Age: 16
 16th birthday I think?

Me being my UBERCOOL self, dressing up with some friends to go TPing. Age: 17
All dressed up for the pirates vs. ninjas party summer 09. Age: 18

In less than a month and a half, I will be turning the ripe old age of 20. 20 itself doesn't seem like a huge step, but when you think about it it really is. I will be saying goodbye to my teenage self- and those teenage years were a doozy! I feel like as a child you are growing into a person, and as a teenager you are growing into yourself, if that makes sense. So many decisions are made as a teenager- what you like, what you don't like, what you want out of life, what you're afraid of, what is most important to you, who you are. Not that anyone has all the answers coming out of being a teenager, but I'd definitely say we're all a bit wiser for the wear.

20 is also the beginning of what's bound to be a crazy important decade. Sure, I'll turn 21, but that's not even the start of it. In my 20s I will get my bachelors and possibly even a masters degree. I will start a career. I will move places, maybe even a few. I might get married and I might even have a child. Eek! I'm not saying that will definitely happen in my 20s, but it sure does for a lot of people.

So in honor of the end of one very exciting, crazy, amusing, hormone-saturated decade and the beginning of a hopefully equally fun but a little less angsty one, I've constructed a list of 10 things that I have learned in my teens. They might not be the same things you got out of your teenage years, and you might not even agree with them, but for me they have proven to be extremely useful bits of knowledge that help me to live a life full of love, happiness, freedom, and fulfillment. If you've got anything that you learned in your teens that isn't on my list, feel free to leave a comment- I'd love to read about it! Also, if you decide to make a post like this, put the link in the comments so I can check it out!

1. Don't Change Yourself for Anyone. There are always going to be people- possibly friends, family, a boyfriend- who will want you to fit an image that they have of you, or an image of what they would like you to be. Maybe they won't even be pushing this image on you, but you will feel like you should act/talk/dress/think differently in order to make them happy. Don't! I was an actress in high school and sometimes I felt like I was constantly on stage, just switching masks for whoever I was with. Some of my friends were really girly and straight-edge, so I found myself acting more feminine around them. Other friends were more counterculture, so when I was around them so was I. And then there were the boyfriends. There were a few times I went to church (even though I'm not a christian), partly because my friends were going and I wanted to, but also partly because I thought it would appease a boy that I liked. In retrospect, this all seems so stupid! I should have just been me, instead of tailoring myself to fit each person I was with- because really, what's the point of being friends with someone when they're not actually friends with the real you? Be yourself- ALL of yourself. You will be so much happier letting yourself be free than you would be if you cage up the bits of you that you don't think fit. As the saying goes, those who matter won't mind, and those that mind don't matter.

2. Your Body is a Temple. I know this is a very cliche saying, but it's so, so true. Your body should be your most prized possession. You can ruin your car, your home, your stuff- but you will still survive. If you ruin your body, you probably won't. Not to mention, this is the only body you get! Like it or not, you are stuck with it for the rest of your life. It's pretty darn important, isn't it? Which is why you should treat it as if it's that important. Eat wholesome, nutritious food- preferably stuff that doesn't come wrapped in plastic or cardboard. If an ingredient listed on a package sounds more like it came from your chemistry textbook than from a farm, it probably isn't very good for your body. Develop a fitness routine and stick with it! Not only will it help you stay strong, slim, and healthy, it will keep your heart in healthy working condition and probably lead to a longer, livelier overall life. If you start eating healthy food regularly, you will start to realize that the saying "you are what you eat" really is true. Fresh fruits and veggies, nuts, and whole grains make you feel full of energy, happy, and full. Crappy food like preservative-rich "dinner" mixes/starters, fatty chips, candy, and -at least for me- dairy and meat make you feel sluggish, achy, tired, and grumpy. Think of your body as a machine that is detrimental to your survival- maintain it so that it can work efficiently by exercising, and give it only the best, most nourishing fuel. Give your body the love and attention it deserves!

3. People Think About You Far Less Than You Think They Do. In my junior year, there was a girl who hated me for no discernible reason other than an ex-friend of mine had told her I'd said some things about her (which for the record, I absolutely did not). Anyways, one day the girl confronted me in an effort to "bitch me out" (as was the phrase used in high school) and force me to confess. She accused me of thinking she was a slut, and I found myself saying, "[girl's name], I have way more important things to do and think about in my day than to worry about whether or not you're a slut." which was probably a little rude, but it was true- I didn't think about that girl at all, whether in positive or negative terms, but she was so worked up thinking that I did! Some people (myself included at times) spend so much time thinking about what other people are thinking. You walk into a room and people look at you and you find yourself wondering to yourself, "do they like my outfit? do they not like it? were they just talking about me? blah blah blah blah blah". You're walking down the street and you trip and you wonder if anyone saw you. You say something in class and you wonder if the other students are judging you for it. You put on something to wear in the morning in hopes that other people will be impressed. It's all so tiresome and pointless! Especially when the fact is, everyone else is probably NOT thinking about you, they're probably too busy second-guessing themselves and wondering what YOU are thinking of THEM. Sure, there are one or two sad souls out there who get their kicks from judging people and talking about them behind their backs, but they're not worth the time of day. I don't spend very much time thinking about what other people are doing/saying/wearing, so I figure everyone else is probably not too concerned about what I'm doing/saying/wearing. So why worry about it? Think about yourself, and let everyone else do the worrying.

4. Life is the Most Important Thing. More important than school. More important than jobs. More important than money, pretty things, essays, dentist appointments. In my opinion, the purpose of life is to live it. Enjoy it. Not to go to school, get a degree, get a job, become a decent and successful member of society before you die. Where's the fun in that? I'm not saying you shouldn't do those things- I definitely wanted to do well in highschool and now I want to do well in college and become successful- just don't let those things stand in the way of the joy of life. It's ok to play hookie every once in a while in order to take advantage of a beautiful day. It's ok to take a year off of school and work and just backpack around, living off of cash you make doing odd jobs. Nothing should stand in the way of you living your life. You might only get one shot at this thing, so don't do something you hate because you feel like you have to, and don't give up something you really want because you feel like you can't have it. In my life, I try to only do things that will make me happy. Sometimes I do things that aren't fun and I don't enjoy, but I do them because I know the end result will make me happy. I don't always want to go to class, but I know at the end of 4 years I'll have a degree. I don't like going to the dentist, but I sure like having clean, pain-free teeth. Just remember that everything you do should be something you WANT to do, for one reason or another, not just something you think you HAVE to do.

5. Everything is Constantly Changing. So don't try to hold on to the present. People change, a lot. You've changed. The earth changes. You don't get to press pause and keep things the way they are, and you don't get to turn back time and try to get it back. You just get to float along and enjoy they good things that come at you and work through the bad. I've gained a lot of friends over my life, and I've lost a whole lot too- most of the time not through any action or fight or anything, just because life moved on and we drifted apart one way or another. It's just the way things are. On the upside, you can always be confident that no matter how terrible things seem to be, they are guaranteed to change, and most likely get better. There is always something new and wonderful lurking around the corner, you just have to let life take you there. Don't get stuck, let yourself go and make peace with the fact that nothing can stay the same for too long. Change is inevitable, and it's not always as scary as we think it is.

I'll have part 2 of my 10 things I've learned in my teens list up in the next few weeks. Enjoy your weekend!

Vlogging Vednesday- my first!

Hey guys, I just did my very first vlog EVER for vlogging vednesday! You can learn more about vlogging vednesday here and here as well as check out a whole lot of other people's vlogs for today's prompt.

So, you can totally tell i'm uber nervous- turns out typing out your life in the safety of your quiet little room is much easier than turning on a camera and filming yourself in said room for the world to see. I'm excited about this whole vlogging vednesday thing and hopefully I will do more in the future! I don't have a ton of time so editing is minimal- i mean, the song doesn't even fit haha. Also, sorry about the noise from my roommate showering in the next room. oh well!

anyways, enjoy my silly little vlog :)

thanks for watching! hopefully i'll only get better with time!

Oh, and just in case the video is unlcear and you are super into accomplishing this hairstyle (lol), here are some typed instructions:

1. Give yourself a dramatic side part
2. Tease the top portion of your hair on all sides- I usually do two sections of hair on the side with the most hair, one on the other side, and one in the back
3. Comb the very top layer of the teased hair to make it look smooth
4. Gather the teased hair behind your hair and pin it so it's nice and poofy, kind of like a beehive. For girls with less hair this will probably only take 2 bobby pins, I usually use four.
5. Gather your hair at the nape of your neck and use a small band to tie it. push it up to give your hair some extra oomph
6. Use your fingers to backcomb the ponytail, giving it a messy look.
7. If you have bangs like mine, use your comb to tease them just a little, then comb them to one side of your face. You can pin them, like I did, or just let them be free :)
